Rosie Snell, The Hangar, 1996 [Detail]

Rosie Snell is an Oxfordshire-based artist whose alienating landscapes bear the inscription of a disconcerting past. There is no human in sight and her subjects, presented at considerable distance, show a deserted inactive scenario. Nature feels as an extension of human loneliness.

Looking closer at her paintings one discovers that various textures such as sand for soil, rust and aluminium strips are applied in the oil-based medium, revealing unforeseen layers to the original smoothness.
